Linda
Vista Hospital
Boyle Heights, California, just a short distance from downtown
L.A.
Status: Walk Through and Ghost Hunt Accomplished.
Next phase: Full Ghost Investigation.
We did a quick walk by on 5-29-10. The hospital was set up with
all the accoutrements for a film
shoot so there was no point in trying to gain access. We did get some
good exterior shots, which will be posted soon.
Also Justin's
camera battery died for no reason. It was freshly and fully
charged that morning. Later in the day Steve's brand new
batteries died in his camera, which had not been used at all.
Interesting note: When Justin stepped onto the property to snap a picture
of the Linda Vista sign, he said he nearly stopped dead with
head pain. He described it as a very strong squeezing sensation
to either side of his head, similar in pain level to a bad sinus
headache. He said when he stepped back onto the sidewalk, the
sensation ceased.
Steve felt virtually nothing at the property, odd, since he felt so much
there previously. The only sensation was a "Oh, it's you again"
feeling when he stepped onto the property to speak with the
caretaker. Not a welcoming feeling, not a go away feeling, but a
feeling of
recognition. "You
are recognized, proceed."
First, wisdom: This property is on the
National Register of Historical Places.

Please respect the fact that this property is
privately owned and that the owners have a large capital
expenditure with this property and it's upkeep. Please respect
the memories of the (likely) thousands of people who worked
there over the 86 years that it operated as a hospital, as most
did so for the benefit of humanity. Please respect the thousands of people who were cared for there, and the
people who passed away on this property. You CAN do the moral
and right thing and get legal access to this property anytime
there's not a film crew there. Although it is expensive, it's
worth it if you want to hunt ghosts. Please do NOT enter this
property illegally.

Built in 1904 by the Santa Fe Railroad, it was originally named
the Santa Fe Coast Lines Hospital. Wings were added
over the years as the hospital grew, and it was rebuilt (or
heavily modified) in 1924. It was renamed Linda Vista Hospital,
probably in 1937, though research shows it could have been
renamed later. Linda Vista means "pretty View", and it was
re-named well, as it in fact sports a great view.
The hospital closed down about 1990 amid rumors of
patient abuse and rumored threats of numerous lawsuits. I say
rumors because we have not substantiated any of these tales.
According to people who entered this building right after it
closed for business, and many years later, it's as if the people
working there just "stopped what they were doing and walked
out," like a ship being abandoned.
If anybody was at Linda Vista
Hospital as a patient or worker at this time or the months
preceding it's closure, please write us and tell us your story

Howard Hughes is rumored to have stayed at Linda Vista on the top floor numerous times, and it's said that his inspiration for the better hospital bed that he invented was inspired by his stays there.
We had an opportunity for some of our members to visit this former hospital recently with a television show. Not a viewer before, though I had seen two episodes the previous year, but only because they happened to be on TV in the same room I happened to be in at the time. I thought it was a fun show then, and I'm happy to say that I am now a fan, partly because everyone we met that night was absolutely wonderful, and partly because it's just a fun show. That is all I will say about my first visit there in regards to this program, and that it may not have been my only visit there.
If you've read my profile, you'll know that I am a sensitive. Occasionally I pick up on energies which ordinarily can't be seen with the naked eye (and sometimes can), at which time I direct cameras to shoot the areas in which I feel an energy. I've been proven spot on many, many times. Now I'm not some sort of ESP proponent, but I do believe that everybody is capable of extraordinary perceptions if they allow themselves to be open to it.
In the hospital
itself there were no observations of anything paranormal
happening at all, however there are five actives in there that I
did sense, along with hundreds and hundreds of imprints. Now
understand, this is all subjective, and based only on my
feelings and intuition.
The actives were three "inmates" in hospital gowns, one doctor,
and a lady about 35-ish, also in a hospital gown, with shoulder
length dark hair. I say inmates for the first three, though they
had in fact been patients, psych patients I believe, but they
were, and are, forbidden from leaving. There is the ghost of a doctor
reported on the premises, but I've not heard a physical
description of him, though sensed one: At about 5' 9", he looks
to be about 50 years old, salt and pepper hair with matching
beard, both with more pepper than salt, and glasses, not worn,
but rather on a chain leash and dangling down on a lab coat. In
relation to him I saw the color brown, so I'm making a leap here
that his name was Dr. Brown. Some workers called him Dr. Frank
behind his back, but his name was NOT Frank Brown. He was
nicknamed Dr. Frank because for a time he had a penchant for
saying things like "Let me be frank with you." and "Be frank
with me," a lot. He was generally disliked, or more precisely,
feared. He touched me on the shoulders at the 5th floor elevator
alcove, or more accurately rushed me from behind and drained my
energy to the point where my knees buckled and time seemed to
slow down to half speed for about 5 seconds. I grayed out. He
was shouting "Chaos, chaos! I want
order, I want this (place) orderly! I hate chaos! Peace and
quite!" or something to that effect.
Dr. "Frank" was a burnout. He'd begun burning out shortly after,
or late in his internship or residency, and his career path
reflected that, ending up at a dead end such as Linda Vista
Hospital. He was there when the hospital started it's downhill
plunge, and may have been partly responsible for it. I think he
himself was a product of the Midwest, Missouri, I believe. When
he decided to become a doctor, he had visions of having a
private practice, a few well heeled clients, golf (what else),
and he'd be a respected member of society. Toast of the town.
Sadly, it did not turn out that way for him. At times he
displayed incredible compassion for the sick, and at other times
he could be cruel.

The woman patient spirit.
Now, I noted this before I watched a clip of Ghost Adventures visit there, and when I watched that clip I was pretty sure this is the same woman Nick saw and bolted from.
My perception of her was this: she was wringing her hands, as a worried person would do, sort of in front of her, arms pointed toward the ground. "I hope you can help me...can you help me?...will you help me?...somebody please...I need help" were her urgent words, over and over.

The psych ward.
This building, the southern most, struck me as not just a psyche
ward, but that at one time or another it had been used as a
dormitory. I don't know for whom or the circumstances.
This building had a heavy feeling to it, a dense curtain of
emotion and despair.
The lower of the two psyche ward basements is where most of the
activity was on the property, and had we been down
there any longer something dramatic likely would have happened.
Whatever was down there was strong, and it was taking it's time,
assessing us, and building strength. I have no idea what for, or
who or what it was.
What I did pick up down there was an imprint of the death of a
man from hypothermia. He died under the stairs that lead down
from the upper basement. He had either hidden beneath the
alcoves beneath the stairs, or had been barricaded in that area.
He was curled up in a fetal position and dressed only in briefs.
He had beard growth and dark curly "Mike Brady" type hair. He
was cold, so very cold and shivering, and when he looked up at
me, he didn't turn his head, but only moved his eyes. I feel as
if I was seeing this through somebody else's eyes. All that was
in these alcoves now were the remains of shredded mattresses.
Another thing was an incredibly strong urge or pull to walk down
the passageway that leads to the right at a right angle at the
far end of the basement. It was well lit by two incandescent
light bulbs, but I'm pretty sure these bulbs would have been
extinguished had I ventured down this corridor. I did
not go in there! The pull was nearly irresistible, as if someone
was at the far end waving me in, and the air felt denser,
heavier.
When we did try to leave the basement via the way we came in, we
went first to the upper basement, then to the stairs to the
first floor, only to find that we were in fact locked in the
basement by an obstruction. A 2x4 piece of lumber had been laid
on the floor in front of the outward opening door, and the other
end of the wood was against the far wall. I'm told that stick of
lumber had been leaning against the far wall opposite the door
when we went down there. Everybody swears that nobody was in the
building while we were, and that they had not locked us in, and
I believe it. So either there was somebody in the
building nobody knew about, or it was a paranormal event. I
didn't feel anything paranormal above us when were down in the
lower basement, just that which was sharing the basement with
us. I remembered that lighted corridor leading from the lower
basement when we discovered we were locked in, and how it was
pulling me to it, wanting me to enter. I thought it might lead
to an alternate exit, but if something paranormal had locked us
in, there was no way I was going to walk that lower corridor in
search of an exit unless I absolutely had to. Until then it was
only an option. Luckily we were able escape via the door we
entered from.
Upon finishing I did a quick (and stern) blessing to keep anything from this property from following anyone home, basically telling the actives that they were bound to the property. What's odd about this is the very strong feedback I got, unlike anything I've ever experienced. On man spoke back..."Ah nuts, again!" while kicking at a rock only he could see. Another said "Mister, we caint leave no how, no way." I got an impression of somebody really good, really powerful, speaking a prayer that was intended to free all of them, but in fact made many stick to the building. Or free some and not others. Could be two different set of circumstances at two different times.
This is posted so that future researchers or investigators, including ourselves, can study it, learn from it, disprove or "debunk" it, and compare their findings to test this account's veracity.
That's all folks. It was a unique experience, one I will keep with me the rest of my days.
